Almost Magical

Wednesday, August 30th, 2006

I’ve had a great time in this year’s Kadayawan Festivities. Of course as you know Kadayawan is Davao’s annual thanksgiving festival for the abundant blessings that the city has received for the past year. And I must say I’ve had the abundance of awesome memories of this year’s feast.

As always I make it a point to join the many activities lined up for the celebration. I love being on the streets and get to see the many colors of Davao and feel the vibe of Kadayawan. I even invited some friends to be where the action is, but they refused. They’d rather watch the coverage on TV than beat the heat of the sun. Okay, the sun was really painful but it was all worth it!

Aside from the Floral Float and Indak-indak, I also frequented Kaan Dawet at Roxas Ave., where we hang-out with friends for some chit chats and drinks.

The sea of people during the whole course of the fest was really amazing…Anywhere you go, be it in the malls or at the parks, there’s always a huge crowd. I actually love the feeling of being entangled and mobbed in a crowd just like that!

Well aside from enjoying big crowds, I also enjoy rubbing elbows with the rich and the famous. I know for a fact that the David Pomeranz Concert on Aug.19, would be flocked by the who’s who in the city. Although I’m not exactly interested with Mr. Pomeranz and his music, I flaunted all my wits & charms and persuaded my former co-employee in the station I worked with before, to get me some invites to the concert. The station was one of the media partners of the music event. I called her up two days earlier and guess what?, the 10 complimentary tickets where all taken. Damn! What am I gonna do!

I thought maybe I’ll just have to settle for the Red Horse Musik Laban, where April is hosting…ewww!!!

Anyways, Saturday came & I just got the best text message that I’ll receive for that day. Ronelyn, the one I convinced two days ago, had one concert ticket available just for me. Sorry April. So we agreed to meet at the NCCC Food Cove at 8PM that night and watch David together.

When Ronelyn and I met, she said that she actually had two more tickets available. That means we need two more people for the ultimate Kadayawan concert of the year in the city.

Lord knows how I tried to look around and find two familiar faces and gave out the two extra tickets we’ve had that night. I was feeling like Santa Claus looking for the nicest boy and girl in town so I can take them for a wonderful ride.

There was a sea of people at the Mall at that time but believe me there was not a single person I know. I was even tempted to just sell the tickets but that was illegal.

Anyways, we get in at the concert hall, with two extra concert tickets still on my pocket. Honestly I kinda enjoyed the concert. It was much better than the last one I saw (the Fra Lippo Lippi one). Mr. Pomeranz really gave me chills when he sang King & Queen of Hearts and Got to believe in magic….

It was really magical. Really!!! But I wasn’t able to rub elbows with the rich and the famous, cause the concert hall was really dark. Duh! But sure there were lovers everywhere in full force, hugging, embracing , feeling the magic that David is creating that night!

Well I still feel bad about the two tickets. I wish I had brought along two more friends there…I guess my Kadayawan would have been more magical and memorable, if I’ve done that.

The Interview

Friday, August 25th, 2006

I’ve had several job interviews in the past, but the last one I’ve had is definitely the best one! Hey it’s not because I passed it or anything…It’s just that I learned so many things about my self during the course of the interview.

For the first time I was interviewed and the interviewee actually gave her personal assessment about how I fair during our conversation. It’s quite refreshing to get to know your strengths and weaknesses after the whole thing ended.

I was actually applying for a spot in a call center here in the city, and according to the interviewee, I  have a good voice (ahem), nice accent (hehehhe) and I’ve had a good pronunciation. The only downside that she’d noticed was that I was not looking at her, not giving her an eye contact…which according to her is a sign of low self-esteem. I think she’s right! I still need a booster to uplift my confidence. Nevertheless, she said that I did well and I am through with the first level.

I still have to take a psychological exam (which I’ve already taken, and was really hard!) and a one month training. If I made it, then I’ll be a certified call center agent then…well that’s beside the point!

The point is that, the interview was like patterned  to a reality talent searches we see on the boob tube. I feel like I was applying at the American Idol or was among the hopefuls for Starstruck or Star Circle Quest, ready to give it all, just to please the jurors of the show….(of course minus the lights and the cameras).

One good thing about this talents searches on television is that auditioning and getting interviewed right now is like a piece of cake already….It’s like these searches are telling me that I don’t need to be the very best or it’s just normal to have mistakes or a little error alongside since we are not perfect after all….

I wish every job interviews of different companies are like that…It would really help all the applicants if they know exactly what they lack or what are the things that made them a standout…

I’m done with those companies who keep telling me to just wait for their call….whatda!!! it’s year 2006 already man!!!
