The Mighty Pen

Thursday, September 14th, 2006

It’s been said that the pen is mightier than the sword…Well I have to believe that the pen is indeed mighty. There have been so many instances in my life where the pen lead me to some disastrous, climactic cinematic event than I could only imagine in my mind.

The pen had me placed in a situation where you have to fight & do what you think is right. A step that had me re-evaluate my self and my life.

The pen had indeed created a trouble for me this past few days, but I’m happy about it. I think I’ve made my point across and asserted my innermost feelings & intentions, although it didn’t really have the happy-ending that I thought would occur.

Most probably you’re puzzled with the things that I’m talking about so far…but let’s just forget about that episode…The wounds are still so fresh and I still can ‘t let it out at this time….Let’s just talk of an incident that happened to me 10 years ago.  I guess it will give you an idea of what I’m talking about. It still involve the mighty pen and the trouble it created.

In high school, the pen had me writing to our principal about the policy of the school on the cash prizes students win in contests. Our school has always been one of the most competitive high schools in the city and we always end up winning titles and cash prizes at that.

I was a part of our choral group that bagged the first place in a City-wide Choir competition. We won P 20,000.00 as prize. Our teachers and trainers promised that each one of us will get something from the cash prize, so when we learned that they’ll not give us any penny at all from our winnings…my pen had to do some working.

Our group convened and decided to write to our principal about their decision. Since I was the one who wrote that love letter to our principal, I together with our group leader, was called for a meeting with our school head, which includes our parents.

I was 16 then and I must say I have been to places because of that pen.

Writing will truly take you anywhere. I’ve been to many beautiful places…and boarded a plane because of writing…I’ve also been to some of the most undesirable places and situations because of that! You’ll never really know where life takes you…well I guess the best thing is we learn and we grow everytime.
